BBQ Food Safety
Refrigerate your food immediately; it's a large myth that you're supposed to let your food get to room temperature before placing in the fridge. Perishable foods left unrefrigerated for over two hours can cause food poising
- Don't defrost food in the sun, or in hot water. There are three ways to defrost food safely; 1) Refrigerator, 2) Cold water and 3) Microwave
- Marinate your food in the refrigerator and don't taste the marinade if raw meat has been added
- Wash, clean and dry your hands thoroughly before you prepare the food and repeat this step every time you touch raw meat
- Don't forget surfaces. Make sure you keep all prep, cooking and serving areas clean
- Use separate cutting boards and utensils, for raw and cooked food, when preparing and cooking food
- Make sure you keep all food covered until it is ready to be cooked
- Don't use fly spray near the BBQ or prepping area as these can contaminate the food or flare the bbq
